Synopsis

Logline

Two families share a street in 2026 America — one lifelong American, one Mexican immigrant awaiting asylum — and discover what it actually costs to love your neighbor.

Short synopsis

Jon is a lifelong U.S. citizen. Fabián is a Mexican immigrant a decade into waiting on an asylum application. They live next door to each other. As their two families navigate 2026 America, both men awaken to a deeper sense of what it means to be American — and what it actually costs to love your neighbor. A music-driven film with seventeen original songs.

Medium synopsis

As immigrant families across the U.S. face uncertainty and fear, Brotherhood issues a call to reconsider a line buried in a beloved patriotic anthem: "crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea." The film tells the story of two next-door neighbors — Jon, a white U.S. citizen, and Fabián, a Mexican immigrant stuck in a decade-long holding pattern awaiting progress on his asylum application. As the two men and their families navigate 2025 and 2026, they awaken to a deeper sense of what it means to be American, and to truly love your neighbor. Written and directed by Ross Boothe and starring Emmy winner Mauricio Martínez alongside GENTRI's Casey Elliott, Brotherhood is an emotionally powerful, music-driven experience built on seventeen original songs. In theaters October 2, 2026.

Long synopsis

As immigrant families across the U.S. face uncertainty and fear, Brotherhood issues a call to reconsider the message of a beloved patriotic anthem: "crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea." The film tells the story of two next-door neighbors. Jon is a white U.S. citizen who has never had to think hard about the street he grew up on. Fabián is a Mexican immigrant stuck in a decade-long holding pattern, awaiting progress on an asylum application that never seems to move. Their houses share a fence. Their families share a school, a grocery store, a Sunday. What they do not yet share is an understanding of one another. As the two men and their families navigate 2025 and 2026 — a stretch of American life in which the question of who belongs here is asked louder than it has been in a generation — both households are forced past politeness and into something harder and more honest. Each man discovers what the other has been carrying. Each is asked to decide what neighborly actually means when it costs something. Brotherhood is an agent of self-reflection: an emotionally powerful, music-driven experience built on seventeen original songs, written to invite audiences to question what America means to them and how their beliefs drive their actions. It is, in the words of writer-director Ross Boothe, "not a political message. This is a human message." Written, directed, and composed by Ross Boothe. Starring Emmy winner Mauricio Martínez, who made his Broadway debut as Emilio Estefan in On Your Feet!, alongside Casey Elliott of the tenor trio GENTRI. Produced by Daren Smith. A Craftsman Films production, in theaters October 2, 2026.
